Doorknobs & Area Rugs

I'm pretty well resigned to the fact that every weekend between now and October 1 is going to leave me a little more broke and exhausted. This past weekend was all about Doorknobs & Area Rugs, which sounds like some kind of twisted Disney movie, only there are no fairy godmothers and apron-wearing rodents around to magically and seamlessly get us moved from Point A to Point B.

In going back and reading my entries from just three years ago, I rather accurately described the moving process as feeling "like I'm on a brake-less train, hurtling towards Surrealville, population: fish." This move has the added strangeness of going from a place owned by somebody else to a place owned by US. Garbage disposal breaks? Can't call the landlord. We IS the landlord.

With this added responsibility comes a very grave sense of Wanting What's Best For The House in terms of furnishings. No longer will we be accepting the gently-used fruits of somebody else's redecorating project. We do not want your recliner/ottoman/vaguely-tumorous-looking sectional sofa, thank you. We are sucking up and buying NEW furniture that we like and that represents our tastes and inclinations. As such, we may not actually have a dining room set until well after Thanksgiving, but we are okay with this. We're broke, yes, but we're not poor country mice either, and it's about time we had some decent furniture instead of our current hodgepodge of castoffs and Craigslist "bargains."

To that end, I have informed Foot Foot and Mephisto that if they think they can engage in reckless claw-sharpening wherever they so desire, I will put them back outside where we found them. Mephisto seems to accept this.
