Craigslist - where furniture goes to die.

Spring is here, chickens, and summer not far away. Here in Boston, this means relatively stress-and-crowd-free commuting on the MBTA for at least 3 months, as the students depart, leaving their crappy furniture behind.

But in recent years, furniture is not immediately left on the curb for Thursday morning pickup. Nay, not when there's the possibility of making money from said crappy furniture, thanks to the virtual yardsale that is craigslist.org.

It's quite amazing what people believe: A) constitutes "in good condition," and B) is a reasonable price for their well-used wares. My dear friend Jean and I have spent the last couple of days trolling craigslist for the most outrageous of these "bargains" and writing appropriate commentary:

Double-wide capacity indicated by dual greasy head stains.

A perfect addition to your starter bordello.

"Luxurious lush leather sofa - $100.00"

("Luxurious" and "lush" being code for "rancid" and "pee-stained.")

One touch from this sofa and the lame can walk! (car not included)

Giant tumor! $1,800.00!

Grandma would be pissed if she knew they removed the plastic.

"Drudgery in Suburbia: A Study In Beige"

I'm thinking this could be more or less a regular feature here...

Oh. My. God. How did my college couch (grandma's with the plastic removed) make it here? I'm having severe flashbacks now and must consume massive quantities of Bud Light and Cheetos to recover.
