The proponents of Proposition 8 would like us all to know that this isn't about DISCRIMINATION.

Discrimination: treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit.

No, really. It's not about discrimination; it's about preserving the sanctity of marriage.

Riiiiiight. Because us heteros have been doing a bangup job of that so far. I give you: Elizabeth Taylor, Rudy Giuliani, Henry VIII, Britney Spears, the state of Nevada, AAANNNND....John McCain.

So, essentially, the state of California now has to say to 18,000 LEGALLY MARRIED couples: "Oops! Did we actually give you the right to marry? Sorry! Hang tight and we'll get back to you on whether or not that's still all valid and junk, nnnkay?"

But it's NOT DISCRIMINATION. Let's just make that perfectly clear. You homosexuals can work, watch "CSI," and pay taxes just like us insert-Tab-A-into-Slot-B types, but because you happen to be romantically/sexually/spiritually committed to folks with the same plumbing as yourselves, you don't get to be married. The great big bunch of us took a vote and decided that the small bunch of you don't get to have the same stuff that we do.

It's totally not discriminatory. At all.
