I remembered! I remembered!

Holy shit.

For YEARS, whenever I had to run some kind of errand or remember some small, mundane detail, I would break into this sing-songy routine. "A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of BUTTAH." Barely anyone would pick up on it. The houseboy would look at me like I was insane. Sometimes I would create variations on the theme...when I was still smoking, I'd let a cigarette dangle just so out of the corner of my mouth and mutter, "I needjuh to git me a Doctah Peppah, a cahton a' KOOLS, an' a jah a' mustid." And people would laugh, nervously, like they wanted me to believe they got the joke. I was really beginning to think I made this whole thing up.
